Literacy Project Volunteers Needed!
Rotary has a strong commitment to literacy in the world and this is true for the FM AM Rotary Club as well. Three years ago, our club, along with Fargo West and Fargo Downtown clubs, began working with the English Language Learners program at Agassiz Middle School in Fargo. Through this program, Rotarians work with ELL students to improve their language skills and comprehension. From reading to playing games, volunteers enjoy working with these new Americans to not only improve their speaking skills, but to help them feel at home in our area.
In 2006, we had the pleasure of joining our students in their new school, Carl Ben Eielson middle school. This new facility is not only beautiful, but it has given students and teachers a sense of pride that is obvious when you walk into the building.
This program was honored by our Rotary District in 2006 with the District Literacy award. The true honor of this program, however, is sharing in the development of students that will shape the future of our community.
Melissa is looking for volunteers for this Friday’s Literacy Project at Carl Ben – please let her know whether you can do this. There are a mere two requirements:
1. You can be there
2. You can read
Please contact Melissa for details.
