Fargo West Rotary • A Brief History

Important Dates

  • July 29th, 1983: The Rotary District Governor made a decision to give the Fargo Rotary Club authority to start organizational work to form a new Rotary Club in Fargo, ND.
  • November 22, 1983: The Fargo Rotary Club signed the application along with payment of $200 (application fee) paid to Rotary International. The president of Fargo Rotary signed the application.
  • April 20, 1984: Organized with 21 charter members who met the constitutional requirements for membership in a Rotary Club.
  • May 30th,1984: Fargo West Rotary received its charter. A list of Past Presidents is attached.
  • 1987: Betty Opheim, first female member was admitted for membership, sponsored by John Stern.

  • 1996: Sir Mangerod arrives from Norway, Emiloe Mariano from Argentina
  • 1998: Matt Biewer goes to Mexico, Michi Marianos arrives from Argentina
  • 2004: Laura Ramirez comes from Columbia and Marshall Monda goes to Venezuela
  • 2005: Paulo Sampieri comes from Brazil and Maggie Rousseau goes to Finland
  • 2006 & 2007: No Exchange
  • 2008: Inbound not yet named but outbound Max Monda going to Italy
